Many of us mom types will never be able to shake, “Hi STAR…now give me my money!!! or just the, “Hi STAR!".  Well. the animated, candid, and cheery Laura Cain of The Jeff and Jer Showgram (Star 91.4 FM) lived her darkest days just a year back.  I was able to mingle with Laura Cain, one of San Diego’s most popular radio personalities last week, and being that Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I thought that sharing this entry is of good timing. 

While being Mom and carrying on with her work and marriage, she hid an ugly secret that ultimately led her to announce that she wanted to take her own life.  The good news is that she has kicked her cigarette smoking and drug & alcohol addiction, and is now living a clean and sober life.  While she lost her family unit, as she knew it, which included her husband, two kids, and a nice house in the 'burbs, she is here, sober, and appreciative to be so.  With her new lease on life, she is taking “one day at a time”.  For that, I commend her.  Her candidness in sharing her journey with the public makes her only the braver, in my book.

One thing that she said regarding raising kiddos was, “They grow up too fast, but you can slow it down.”  Apparently, she has done just that.  So, kudos to Laura Cain, for finding the courage to step up to the plate and start a-new.  Keep the faith, "STAR", and have a beautiful Mother’s Day!
