San Diego, CA - December 6, 2007: Moms from playgroups throughout San Diego have come together to create an opportunity for the community to take a break from rushed holiday shopping and spend a lovely day together as the community begins to recoup from the recent fire disaster.
The Family Holiday Fair will be held Sunday, December 9th from 10 am to 2 pm at the beautiful Bernardo Winery, Southern California's oldest operating winery tucked away in Rancho Bernardo.
The Fair will feature two free concerts; one by the easy-going local rock duo "Gone to Plaid" and also children's favorite "Hullabaloo" whose album "Hey, Everybody!" just won "Best Recording for Young Children" in the Children's Music Web Awards and also won the 2006 Parents' Choice Award.
Admission to the fair is free with parking included. A jumper will be provided for the little ones, plus $5 pony rides provided by Party Ponies and 5 for $5 wine tastings served with the winery's delicious food. Raffle prizes will be handed out throughout the event for everything from a gift certificate for any class on the Friends With Class catalog (up to $100), one-month free Stroller Strides classes county-wide, one-month free admission to My Kids Clubhouse in Poway, and a dual membership to the Zoo / Wild Animal Park courtesy of Jeannine LaChance Coldwell Banker. Additional participation from Cookie Lee Jewelry, Jockey, Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, Melaleuca, AmeriPlan, Tastefully Simple, Kate's One-of-a-Kind Custom Jewelry, Mary Kay, Arbonne, PartyLite, Finder's Key Purse and Cradle to College.
Proceeds from vendor registrations and the raffle will be donated to Habitat for Humanity for the Fire Rebuild Effort. Habitat for Humanity will have a display and representatives at the fair to inform the public of their fire rebuild program for those who need help and those who want to volunteer and be involved. Other local groups like MBA (Mom Business Associates) that helped to launch the fair will have information available along tables of mom-run businesses offering beautiful crafts and holiday gift ideas, as well as unique services.
Gabriela Dow, a Fair organizer and former Habitat for Humanity board member, explains, "The nature of moms is that once we get started planning an event it just grows to include more people and have more to offer for everyone in the community. The fair not only benefits a great local cause, but has actually grown to be a uniting event for moms throughout the County and the Rancho Bernardo community in particular."
Having raised more than $2,000 for fire victims on the Friends With Class website (in large part thanks to Christy and Steve Lipinsky), Dow will be distributing the funds via gift cards to families pre-selected in conjunction with Rebuilding RB Coalition. She sees the fair as an opportunity for the community to come together in a fun and relaxed setting after such difficult prior weeks to enjoy time together in preparation for a holiday season with so much to truly be thankful for.
Cheryl Keenan, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, says "it is grassroots events like these that are at the heart of how Habitat is able to reach out to a community and create programs like the Fire Rebuild effort, which we launched after the Cedar fires in 2005 and are continuing given the recent disaster. It is wonderful to see moms coming together and thinking of Habitat as a recipient of a wonderful community event created by families for families."
The Fair will take place at the Winery's Uncle Vito's Park at 13330 Paseo Del Verano North - San Diego, CA 92127 (exit Rancho Bernardo Rd off the 15 freeway and head east, turn left on Pomerado and right on Paseo del Verano, drive up the hill until you hit the winery).
